Jean Mandel 2025 Prize

The 2025 Jean Mandel Prize from the Materials Center at the École des Mines de
Paris and the Solid Mechanics Laboratory at the École Polytechnique was
awarded to Claire Lestringant (Jean Le Rond d'Alembert Institute, Sorbonne
University) and Léo Morin (Institute of Mechanics and Engineering, University of
Bordeaux).
• Claire Lestringant is recognized for the depth and rigor of her
theoretical and numerical developments on dimension reduction
in slender structures, on correctors in asymptotic homogenization,
and more recently on cracking in granular materials.
• The prize is awarded to Léo Morin for the depth and variety of his
theoretical, numerical, and recently experimental developments in
nonlinear mechanics of heterogeneous materials.
The prize was presented by Eric Charkaluk (LMS) and Samuel Forest (CDM) during the gala dinner of the French Mechanics Congress, organized by the French Mechanics Association in Metz on August 28, 2025.
The Jean Mandel Prize is intended to encourage scientific research in the fields of solid mechanics and the mechanics and rheology of materials. It is awarded to a young researcher or team of young researchers who have produced original work, either theoretical or experimental, in one of these two fields, at the level of Habilitation à diriger des recherches (HDR, accreditation to supervise research), or who have made an original application of known results to the art of engineering.
